College drops second game of the year vs. Arkansas
Tech ]
Texas College traveled
to Russellville, Arkansas to face the Arkansas Tech
University “Wonder Boys” in which was
the Steers third game of the year.
The inclement weather conditions played a major role
in the final outcome of the game since the heavy rain
made it very difficult for both teams to maneuver.
At some point, the officiating crew was forced to
interrupt the game due to lightning strikes reported
in the area. Both teams had to clear the field and
only after a 45-minute delay were able to resume the
match.
Arkansas Tech took an
early lead by driving the ball all the way to the
end zone on their first possession. A 12-play drive
was finished with a 1-yard run by Arkansas Tech running
back Tim Childress.
The Steers came back
with a good drive of their own and converted two first
downs in a row. However, they were not able to keep
the drive alive when they fail to convert on a fourth
down situation, turning the ball over on downs on
their own 45-yard line.
The Wonder Boys took
advantage of the good field position and engineered
another 7-play scoring drive that increased their
lead to 14-0.
From this moment on
the Steers took over the game stopping the Wonder
Boys offense time after time and producing more offensive
yards than Arkansas Tech in every offensive category.
Freshman running
back Morris Thomas led the Steer ground assault by
compiling 77 yards in 14 carries and 1 touchdown.
That touchdown came after the Steers defense recovered
a loose ball at the Arkansas Tech 37-yard line. It
only took the Steers 2 plays to get close to the Wonder
Boys on the scoreboard after Thomas ran the ball in
the end zone from 12 yards out (14-6).

The
second half was no different than the second
quarter with the Steers pressuring Arkansas
Tech all over the field and, offensively,
creating several scoring opportunities. In
two different occasions the Steers were close
to the opponent’s end zone with a chance
to tie the game. However, they were unable
to punch to put any points on the board and
came out empty-handed twice.
A costly mistake in the third quarter sealed
the game in favor of Arkansas Tech when defensive
back Tito Jose recovered a loose ball by Steer
QB X’Zavier Bloodsaw and returned it
41 yards for a touchdown (21-6). The Steers
kept on pressing but they were not able to
generate any more points
