Texas College is proud to announce the promotion of Andrew Bates to Director of Public Relations. Bates, who has been serving as the College’s Sports Information Director, has excelled in that role by strengthening relationships within the community, elevating the visibility of Texas College athletics, and showcasing the stories of student-athletes through engaging content and innovative media as well as assisting in administrative responsibilities in the athletics department.
In this new role, Bates will oversee all aspects of public relations for Texas College while continuing to lead sports information duties. His dual role ensures a unified approach to telling the Texas College story, both in athletics and across the broader campus community.
Bates brings a diverse professional background that uniquely positions him for success in this expanded capacity. He has seven years of experience as a public school teacher, five years in corrections and law enforcement, and nineteen years as a minister of the gospel. Bates has honed strong communication skills, leadership, and the ability to connect with diverse audiences. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma University in Sports Administration with an emphasis in communications.
His work as the Social Media Content Creator and writer for Texas College’s sports teams has further established him as a skilled storyteller, while his background in photography, videography, and graphic design adds a creative edge to the College’s communication efforts.
As Director of Public Relations, Bates will focus on highlighting the achievements of Texas College students, faculty, and staff, while strengthening the College’s connection with the community through strategic communication and media outreach.
“I am truly honored to step into this role,” said Bates. “Texas College is filled with powerful stories of perseverance, success, and excellence. I look forward to shining a light on those stories while continuing to build on the great work being done here. In addition, I look forward to strengthening existing relationships and building new positive relationships in our community. I am very grateful for this opportunity.”
