Fall 2023 Opening School Convocation


Texas College cordially invites you to celebrate the beginning of the academic year at the Fall 2023 Opening School Convocation on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. The event will begin at 11:00 A.M. (CT) in the Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium; a live stream will also be available and is accessible below.

Dr. Jennifer Wimbish

President Emeritus of the Dallas College System

Dr. Jennifer Wimbish, is President Emeritus of the Dallas College System, and former President of Cedar Valley College (CVC) where she served for 13 years.  Her career journey has included her serving as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Lansing Community College in Michigan.

Dr. Wimbish served on a number of boards and citizen groups.  She was elected to both the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Board, and as Chair of the North Texas Community College Consortium Board.  In the Dallas Metroplex she has served on both the Best Southwest, and Oak Cliff Chambers Boards, the Head Start of Greater Dallas Board, and on the Methodist Hospital System Advisory Group.  Presently, Dr. Wimbish is faculty for the Presidents’ Roundtable, Lakin Leadership Institute.  She is author of the book Leadership Wisdom for All Generations, having recently completed the second edition of the book, which is being used in several college leadership programs.

Dr. Wimbish is known for leading collaborative efforts to support communities, and student success.  Presently, she is working in the areas of career/workforce, equity, and strategic planning.   Dr. Wimbish dynamic leadership has been acknowledged through such awards as the prestigious Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award from Phi Theta Kappa, the National Role Model for Minority Access, Incorporated, the St John’s (Michigan) Community Unity Award and the Woman of the Year Award from the Dallas Women’s Council.

Dr. Wimbish holds a Ph.D. in Higher Adult and Lifelong Education from Michigan State University, a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A & M University-Kingsville, Texas, and a Bachelor’s Degree in History Education from Hampton University.
